MONTH ELEVEN - THIS BABY WAS MADE FOR WALKIN'

This was a big month for several reasons, but the biggest "first" was Evie's first solo steps! She walked from Mom to Dad and then went back the other way. She is learning how to take more and more steps now, and will soon be toddling on her own. Look out world!

This month Evie went to a farm to pick strawberries, visited with friends and family, and enjoyed the nice weather outside. She sleeps wonderfully but wakes up too early, but I guess it's only karma that us night owl parents have a "Morning Person" as a kid! She is learning new words and trying lots of new foods, especially enjoying cheese and almost every fruit. She is more and more fun every day, and we can't wait to see what comes next!

MONTH TEN - BIGGER AND BETTER

Hard to believe our little one is ten months old already! She is getting bigger all the time, and improving all her skills. She is eating a wide variety of adult foods, and motors around the house like an old pro. Evie took her first out-of-town trip this month, heading over to see Grandma and Grandpa Heim in Tryon, where she got to meet Aunt Carina and the cousins too! She was in heaven with all that attention and all those fun kids to play with. Daycare has continued to send germ after germ her way, but she handles being sick better than we do, honestly! She has been quite the social butterfly, going to two friends' birthday parties recently.  And, of course, she has been loving the warm weather and still loves spending time outside.

MONTH NINE - MOVIN' AND GROOVIN'

Evie became a mobile baby this month, as she mastered crawling and pulling herself up to stand. No independent steps yet, but they are on the horizon, I am sure. She has also really started enjoying her solid foods more and more, and has discovered the kid favorite Cheerios. Evie also did a great job on her first night with Miss Logan, her first real babysitter. Lots of fun stuff happening, and lots more to come!

MONTH EIGHT - LOTS OF FIRSTS

What a month! This month Evie had her first TWO teeth appear, one bottom and one top.  She said her first word ("Hi!") and learned to wave and clap. And biggest of all, she is becoming a mobile baby, because she is just starting to crawl. Look out world! She also perfected pulling herself up to a standing position on her own, and got to visit with both Grandmas and Grandpa. She visited the Chinese New Year festival and got to see snow for the first time. She hasn't learned to drive yet but we can only assume that's next.

MONTH SEVEN - CHANGES AND CHALLENGES

This month Evie learned all kinds of new skills, including eating solid foods, pulling herself up to stand, and even taking her first supported steps! She enjoyed her first Christmas, especially ripping off all the wrapping paper. The presents were less interesting, this year. While she has been sick a couple times before, this month marked her first serious illness, dealing with bronchiolitis and ear infections. No fun at all. But she was a tough girl and is now back to normal, getting ready to start moving around on her own!

MONTH SIX - FAMILY AND MORE

This month Evie learned to sit up on her own, and to hold her own bottle while eating. Also, she got to meet a lot of the family for Thanksgiving, which was great! Cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents all came together to give Evie a festive first Thanksgiving. She also just started eating solid foods, which opens up a whole new world of fun (and mess!).

MONTH FIVE - LUCKY PARENTS

This month we are really learning how lucky we are to have such a great baby. She had her first cold and ear infection, and was still a very happy girl. She still sleeps like a champ and she is just a lot of fun. We had a blast doing lots of autumn things like visiting the pumpkin patch and dressing her up as a cute bunny. She also enjoyed her visits from both grandmas and Aunt Addie. Can't wait to see what comes next!

MONTH FOUR - LOTS OF FUN

This month has been a whirlwind, and Evie is changing all the time! She "talks" constantly, laughs and smiles every day, and is learning how to sit up and bounce in her bouncer. She loves going for walks outside, and talking to her friend the ceiling fan. It's hard to believe it has only been a few months, she seems like she has been a part of our life forever!

MONTH THREE - GLORIOUS SLEEP

Life got both easier and more complicated this past month! Evie started sleeping through the night like a champ, getting between 8 and 12 uninterrupted hours at a time. But we also had to deal with new challenges as Casey went back to work and our schedules changed drastically. But we also got the best gift of all - Evie's first laugh! Luckily I was filming when it happened, the video is below, after the picture gallery.

MONTH TWO - SMILES FOR MILES

Lots of changes over the last month, and she just keeps getting bigger! This month we started to get smiles and cute noises, which goes a long way towards combating the sleep deprivation. We are starting to get a handle on some of this, which means it will all change soon and we'll have to learn a bunch of new stuff instead!

MONTH 1 - SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK

We made it through the first month with our little Evie, and while we don't sleep much we are enjoying our time with her. It's still all very surreal and hectic, but it's been wonderful. Here are some photos from the past 3 weeks, enjoy!

EVANGELINE RIVER - THE FIRST WEEK

Casey was a champion! She labored for almost 36 hours, but kept up a great attitude the entire time. I have been impressed with her for a long time, but now my admiration is at a whole new level! We went into Duke Hospital on Wednesday morning, and Evangeline wasn't born until Thursday night.

Evangeline was born at 8:19pm on Thursday June 11th. She weighed 6 lbs 11 oz. and was 19" long. Her eyes were open and she barely cried. And she had LOTS of hair!

We stayed in the hospital until Saturday night for observation, and had lots of time to spend with our new favorite person. I was very restrained and only took 300,000 photos of her. Here is one, and I absolutely did not pose this, she did it herself.

Once we were home we began the struggle of every new parent: figuring out a schedule. It's only been a week, so our schedule is still very much up in the air. But luckily she is a very good baby, crying only when she needs something. Once we figure out what that is and fix it, she stops. That's about the best you can hope for with a newborn!

Now we are one week in, and having a wonderful time. It has been the most intense and surreal week of our lives, and we can't wait to see what comes next!

Here are a few more shots from the first week.

Welcome Evie!
